Hi Robin,
It was nice to see you at the rev-up meeting of BAVAN.
In answer to your question, we do have P&P for RN CXR interpretation for
PICC tip placement, and 10 consultants who do "read" their own CXRs. Our
clients are very pleased that we are able to streamline our procedure,
allowing us to get our PICCs up for use more quickly (with all of its
obvious advantages), we are no longer interrupting (or having to wait for)
the radiologist for our stat reads, or having our CXRs read by residents/ ER
MDs who don't have a clue where the C-A junction is. A good deal all
round!!!! We have a data base that keeps track of the consultants CXR read
versus the radiologists, done within 24hrs. Also our consultants are
encouraged to defer to the radiologist on any CXR where the clarity of the
image is not good e.g. multiple lines/catheters/electrodes, or pt. with
bilateral pneumonia.

Subject: survey of CA PICC nurses

Could you please let me know if there are any Hospitals in California that
are allowing their nurses to do Initial 24 hour Radiographic Tip location of
PICC lines?

If yes, do you have policy to share and or the original competency that your
radiologists accepted as reasonable.

I was told that there are none.

Diane Sims I know that your group has it in your policies, but what is the
hospital response?

Thanks so much,
