We have the use of lidocaine as well as bacteriostatic saline incorporated in to our procedure policy so we do not need to order every time. If the pt is truly allergic to lidocaine we will write the order for bacteriostatic saline and have to wait until it is sent from pharmacy before placing the line because it is not stocked in the Pxyis.

Now I am told that picc is considered invasive procedure. risk management & PI are going to review if picc is still covered under term of admission. for the time being, I am going back to written consent (not informed consent). a couple of questions for the group: 1) when a picc is ordered, does a MD also write the lido order? (It looks like over-riding is considered BAD). 2) how do you document time-out? Now time-out is required. I argue that I can't just chart 'time-out performed' unless MD specifies which SITE for a picc. So I am going to chart 'right patient, right procedure'????? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
