I am looking for information about class content, certification (?), initial MD over-view, etc.
for RNs in the process of becoming eligible to read their own xrays after PICC placement.
Our state just approved RNs being able to read their films-=no comment about educational
or skills check-list or whatever.  Do any of you folks have any educational programs in place
for RNs who have been placing PICCs but haven't been reading their xrays?  What about
RNs in outpatient or home settings-how do you handle the educational process for these
folks?  We would like to put a class together through our organization (NEVVAN).  How
many hours is your class if you have one.  We are interested in obtaining as many answers
to these questions as possible so that when we approach the State Board we can have as
many options as possible and then decide which one is the best.  We in this state were caught by surprise since we weren't aware that the State Board was even considering this issue-we thought it would be years before they were ready to consider it-let alone approve
this extension of practice.  Please either answer to me directly or the list-serve for the following issues:

State you practice in:
Class required to read PICC xrays:
Basic components of the class you attended if class is required in your state:
Any MD (Radiologist?) involvement in the class or practicum process?
Do you  practice in an acute care facility or an out-patient or independent practice\
    or business?
Are there any restrictions on your ability to clear PICCs for use after viewing the
    xray?

Thank you in advance for your answers.  Will let you know what our State Board
has to say.  Kathy Mohn-NEVANN-Las Vegas
