I need some responses from PICC nurses who work for a general community hospital, not a pediatric hospital. Will you place a PICC in any pediatric patient? Does it depend on their size, age, level of cooperation, or something else? If you don't do peds patients, how do they get a PICC placed if they need one? Does your interventional radiology dept do them? Are all PICC nurses expected to place pediatric PICCs or only certain ones? How do you handle a situation where the child needs to be sedated? If your volume of peds PICCs is low, do you do anything different to maintain competency? On average how many peds PICCs do you place a year?
Thanks in advance!
