INS is supporting the National Home Infusion Association's (NHIA) advocacy campaign to support federal legislation that would include coverage for professional services, supplies, and equipment necessary for home infusion under Medicare Part D.

Medicare beneficiaries are currently unable to obtain home infusion therapy under Part D. Although Part D covers infusion drugs, it fails to provide any benefit for the services and supplies needed to administer the drugs in a homecare setting. Therefore, some patients are forced to seek treatment in hospitals and skilled nursing facilities at a significantly higher cost to Medicare and at much greater inconvenience to patients.

H.R. 5791, introduced by Representatives Kay Granger (TX), Eliot Engel (NY), Randy Kuhl (NY), and Tammy Baldwin (WI), would cover everything, including professional services, necessary to provide home infusion therapy in a safe and effective manner.

Contact your congressional representatives now to support H.R. 5791 and the creation of a new home infusion benefit under Medicare Part B.
