We have done a PICC on a pt with an INR as high as 18 and it didn't hardly even bleed! If a pt does have an elevated INR, it is much easier to control excess bleeding in the arm compared to the chest. It is also much less risky to place a line in the arm. I know here the docs don't like to place lines unless the INR is less than 1.5. That is why they usually call us to do it!

Subject: lab values

Does anyone know if there is a cut off for INR value and nurses placing PICCs? Pt in question has INR of 4 and a PT of 41. It was suggested that a radiologist place the PICC, is this correct???
