Thank-you.  This was a manual count.  The Pt was diagnosed Friday with
viral pneumonia.  Blood cultures remained negative.  Dr. pulled PICC
before we were able to culture the tip or draw a culture through it.  He
now says the infection probably had nothing to do with the line.  Can
you have a central line infection and not be septic?   RaKay

Rakay did clarify. I do remember from my school days doing manual CBCs,
but I thought that was very rare these days. With a manual vs computer
cell count you could see bacterial cells but no colony count to verify
contaminant vs infection.

I also wondered about their ability to see visible bacteria. Maybe 
Rakay can provide some additional information about what the lab saw.
