Hi,
Wanted to thank those of you for your prompt response
to my inquiry last Tuesday. The information was very
beneficial, but most of all it made me more aware of how
many parts of the US are having Rad Techs performing
PICC INSERTION. I was prepared for the DON, but she
only wants RNs being trained at this time and put the
Tech out of the class plus many others, except Med-
Surg nurses.
The DON is not budging, in spite of some info that I
shared with her re a dedicated team versus a PICC
STICK, and RUN Team. (Thank you Kathy Kokotis for the
article that I will be using). The reason that the DON gave
was that they would have to have a speciality pay because
the hospital is union. The four other hospitals that have
dedicated teams in the area-do not and three of them
are union. I am compiling data in favor of a dedicated team,
financial etc., for her to respond to, before I make up my
mind if I am going to continuing mentoring in this manner.
training staff her way. When I do the competency skills
check list that I am completing, I will not recommend
them doing PICCs by ultrasound without additional
mentoring. This is the third time for this program there,
(she has only been there since April) and it has failed
because of no dedicated team. I made her aware of
this.
I have some older articles that I am using, if anyone
knows or has new articles that I could use, please
reference them to me.
 Thanks for all you help.
                                  Joyce
