Pick up the conference tape from AVA and the Italian Physician consensus on thrombosis and oncology patients.  Dr. Biffi from Italy spoke and he suggested leaving the line in and treating the patient via the line.  I suggest getting the tap or picking up his guidelines which were part of the EVAN consensus.  EVAN stands for Europe not the AVA newsletter.  They did publish their consensus statement GaceVELT (I think by memory) in an English publication,  Hadaway may have her notes and know what publication

Subject: Thrombus

We are have had a few DVT with the PICC recently on our oncology floor. What is the standard out there on leaving the PICC in and giving lovenox or Heaprin, and continuing with the chemo(SVC placement) or removing. Thses are patients that are compromised to begin with and one had a mastectomy so the opposite arm was not a choice. What is everyone doing in these situations?
Thank you in advance
