In our outpatient unit, we always draw the labs at the time we start the
PIV, unless we can't get an adequate amt of blood. But usually that means
that the IV isn't any good.

Hello,
When starting an IV, does everyone collects the lab draw at the same time
or do they do another stick, one for IV access and one for lab draws? I
know that we do not use perpherial IVs for routine lab draws but what about
at the time the IV is initiated?
