We use saline only for flushes on all central lines including triple lumens.
Our hospital uses Groshong ports, PICCs and tunneled catheters. Occasionally
the docs will insert a Hohn catheter and the triple lumen CVC's are open ended.
We used to use heparin for triple lumen CVCs and any non groshong. We use
the CLC2000 on all central lines so therefore we have gone to saline flushes
only. I surveyed the docs who insert the lines and all but one thought saline
only was OK and a couple of our new younger docs thought that saline only was
the norm as hospitals where they had been were using saline only. Haven't
encountered any problems.
