Does anyone out there get a chest x-ray for tip verification when you have a new admission come in with a central line already in place?  If so:
1.) Does it apply to any and all central lines? If not, which ones do you do and why?
2.) Do you get one if a patient leaves and comes back 24 hours later?  Do you have a set time limit to elapse for the requirement of a CXR?
3.) Does medicare/medicaid reimburse for this if the doc writes the reason?
4.) Do you have a policy in place for this?
Thanks ahead for any responses.  I am trying to institute this in our facility due to a few malpositioned lines recently (ports in particular for chemo patients) and the doc's do not believe there is a necessity for it.  Your thoughts?
