No. BAVAN survey in the late 80's showed that 40% of hospitals used 100 units/ml concentration 3 mls. , but that meant 60% used other volumes and concentrations. I've never seen an outcome study looking at the best concentration, volume and frequency to maintain catheter patency.

Are there any references for any concentrations or volumes for Heparin "instillations" or "flush" to maintain patency for PICC or other CVC...anywhere? INS? ONS? NANN? CDC? FDA? LITE? AVA? Pharmacists?? Literature search reveals very very little....on concentrations and volume efficacy.
