We are having this discussion at my facility now; the educators at skills
day teach placing the "non-sterile" syringe on the lower 1/2 of the sterile
field, and the sterile items on the top half; they teach picking up the end of
the huber needle tubing with your hand as you flush with the non-sterile saline
syrine. THEN, you glove and proceed with the rest of the
procedure.....they can't seem to understand that ONE person can do this as a
sterile procedure....one hand sterile, the other not until everything's
connected...your feedback would be appreciated, as always we are trying to lower
our CVC infection rate. Thanks!
