Hi!

I had a meeting today where I was informed we were going to switch from every 72 hour to every 96 hour peripheral IV site changes to get into compliance with the CDC guidelines.

I went to the INS standards and see that it clearly states (S 49) that peripheral IV sites should be changed every 72 hours and prn complications.

Do we put ourselves in jeapordy by making this switch? I do know that many of our peripheral IV sites still look very good at 72 hours, so going to every 96 sure sounds appealing.

Could we write into policy to change sites at 96 hours or sooner if complications noted? What are the rest of you doing with this?

Thanks much for your input!
