I see the same practice here. The new hemachromatosis patients are
usually done weekly until hgb within a certain parameter, then repeated
monthly as needed.

We have a Neurologist who will order phlebotomies daily (250-500ml) for
pt admitted to hospital with CVA symptoms and hypertensive (these pts
usually have a hgb of 17 or above). I've even seen them do every 6-12
hrs (250ml) for 24hrs.

We repeat dependingon our physicians orders. Many physicians, the
gastroenterologists who are concerned with liver problems will repeat
weekly with parameters for the iron levels. We have a few hematologisits
who do the same regarding high levels also. The patients we do weekly do
very well. We check VS before and after, give fluids to drink, and most
patients do not want to stay long at all. None pass out and do well.

Subject: therapeutic phlebotomy

Dear group,
We are updating our therapeutic phlebotomy procedure.
Does anyone have a time frame for acute therapeutic phlebotomy that may be
repeated?
Thanks,
