I see the same practice here. The new hemachromatosis patients are usually done weekly until hgb within a certain parameter, then repeated monthly as needed.
We have a Neurologist who will order phlebotomies daily (250-500ml) for pt admitted to hospital with CVA symptoms and hypertensive (these pts usually have a hgb of 17 or above). I've even seen them do every 6-12 hrs (250ml) for 24hrs.
