I've never had stones but have been under general a couple times. It's
not a big deal. They will give you a shot of something to make you
groggy and then inflate your cuff if you have one and hook anesthesia
equipment right to your trach. If you don't have cuff they may remove
your trach and put one with a cuff in. I've also had them put a small
balloon down the trach to act as a cuff. For me, the only problems came
after surgery. The anesthesia causes me to have tons of secretions and
my lungs just don't feel right for a couple days. It goes away though.
Why do you need to be under for this?

I am 29 With Duchenne MD and am vent dependent
Tomorrow I am scheduled for a lithotripsy to pulerse
kidney stones. The procedure takes 1 hour and is
non-invasive but they put you under general
anesthesia.
I am nervous about the anesthesia since this will be
the first time being put under since the trach and
vent. Has anyone on the list dealt with this on know
someone who has?
Thanks,
Mark
