Title: Message
It's the Windows Netbackup remote admin console; this is different from the Java console isn't it (at least the CDs seem to think it is)?

Huh, is there a non java remote admin console or is that something you get with a UNIX Master?

This is the thing though; with a remote admin console (non Java version) on Windows-based machine (connecting to a Unix Master), I can't browse either, so it doesn't look like it's an issue with using the Java GUI.

Paul

The browsing Tim appears to be talking about is on the backup selections tab in a policy so the server must get a list of file systems and files via the agent on the client, not physically mount file systems.

I think it is just a feature (or lack of) of the Java GUI. We are mainly a Windows based shop and I can't browse any client file systems using the Java GUI whereas I can browse both UNIX and Windows clients with the Windows GUI.

been like that as long as I can remember.

a unix host can't natively mount a windows share.....(ie NFS vs CIFS) so a unix master/media cannot inspect the filesystem of the windows client to "browse".

Hi,

We've found some differing behaviour in regards to browsing backup selections using NBU6; A Windows Master appears to be able to browse Unix\Linux files systems on clients, whereas a Unix Master does not appear to be able to browse Windows (the path has to be entered manually).
Is this as expected? Does anyone know why?
I'd guess it has something to do with the GUI; on Unix (java GUI), there is no button to browse, and although a remote admin console in Windows (connecting to Unix Master) has a browse button, it isn't actually an active operation on the Unix Master (or something like that).

Cheers,

Tim
