Folks, as I said. it works for us, we can backup and read/restore with same LTO2 tape media on LTO3 and LTO2 tape drives. I am moving all our jobs from L20 with LTO2 tape drives to L180 with LTO3 and continue to use LTO2 tape media, until we have the same technology (LTO3 tape drives) at remote site.

When you put an LTO2 cart into an LTO3 drive, it is detected as such, and the LTO3 drive will write to the tape in the "down-rev" format, so that the tape can continue to be read/written to, in the LTO2 drives. keep in mind... LTO drive will read and write LTO media LTO2 drive will read and write both LTO2 and LTO media. LTO3 drive will read and write both LTO3 and LTO2 media, as well as READ LTO media.
