I'm not sure I understand what behavior you're seeing. So if you bpexpdate one tape, it should expire any copies on that tape. Does it do so? It will not expire copies of the same image on other tapes. You'd use the (-m MEDIA) option if you want a piece of media to be cleared, expiring any remaining images still on it. You'd use the (-backupid BACKUP_ID) option if you want all copies of an image on any tape to be expired.
