For Disaster Recovery we want to take our nightly disk backups and stage them to disk at the DR site. We would upgrade Netbackup to 6.0 before implementing the plan. The master server would make the initial backup, and a media server would do the disk staging. If there were a disaster at the Data Center, the media server would be promoted to master. The catalog is mirrored at the disaster site.
1. Can the media server at the DR site do the disk staging? The reason to use the media server is to pass the data through fiber rather than Ethernet. 2. Is a media server required to get disk staging through fiber channel? I heard that it was needed for backups through fiber in a SAN. So would the same apply for DSSU? 3. Can a media server be promoted to master if the master no longer exists?
