We tried backup reporter several years ago. At that time we also evaluated Aptare and found it to be much better at generating reports and collecting historical data. We have been using it for over 6 years now and are very satisfied. At that time we found Aptare to be a far superior product.
Aptare has some good tools for running sql scripts against it's Oracle database which I am not sure that Backup Reporter has. I don't know what the latest incarnation of Backup Reporter has these days. Aptare has the ability to group servers into groups and run reports against these groups. It also records data in near real time. So you can get the status of a backup almost immediately. Their tech support is also very good.
