LTO4 are configured as HCART, this is correct. Have you enable the library to use encryption? If not, enable it first. You may have to buy a license from IBM first.
What netbackup is doing is to keep the keys and enable or disable the encryption option of the drive, but the drives must be encryption enabled. stefanos -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, February 17, 2010 12:09 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [Veritas-bu] kms won't let me write to LTO4 tapes/drives Netbackup on 6.5.5 on an AIX master/media An IBM TS3310 library with LTO4 tape drives, all tapes are LTO4 This is the job detail 2/16/2010 2:50:12 PM - requesting resource AIX_1drive 2/16/2010 2:50:12 PM - requesting resource dribsp01.NBU_CLIENT.MAXJOBS.myserver 2/16/2010 2:50:12 PM - requesting resource dribsp01.NBU_POLICY.MAXJOBS.testing 2/16/2010 2:50:13 PM - granted resource dribsp01.NBU_CLIENT.MAXJOBS.myserver 2/16/2010 2:50:13 PM - granted resource dribsp01.NBU_POLICY.MAXJOBS.testing 2/16/2010 2:50:13 PM - granted resource D00001 2/16/2010 2:50:13 PM - granted resource IBM.ULT3580-TD4.000 2/16/2010 2:50:13 PM - granted resource AIX_1drive 2/16/2010 2:50:13 PM - estimated 16934025 kbytes needed 2/16/2010 2:50:15 PM - started process bpbrm (590078) 2/16/2010 2:50:20 PM - connecting 2/16/2010 2:50:21 PM - mounting D00001 2/16/2010 2:50:21 PM - connected; connect time: 00:00:01 2/16/2010 2:51:21 PM - Error bptm(pid=401564) FREEZING media id D00001, Encryption unavailable for an ENCR pool 2/16/2010 2:51:21 PM - Warning bptm(pid=401564) media id D00001 load operation reported an error 2/16/2010 2:51:21 PM - current media D00001 complete, requesting next resource Any 2/16/2010 2:51:33 PM - end writing termination requested by administrator(150) this is the tech doc I found http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/321244.htm My tapes are setup with Media type HCART MY drive type is HCART IBM.ULT3580-TD4.xxx Now according to everything I read LTO4 is setup as HCART but looking at that tech note - my tapes are reading as LTO1? below is from the bptm 14:51:22.548 [401564] <2> manage_drive_attributes: report_attr, fl1 0x00000049,fl2 0x0000000c It seems LTO4's should have a much higher number for fl 1. So what do I have wrong that kms won't let me encrypt to the tapes? _______________________________________________ Veritas-bu maillist - [email protected] http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu _______________________________________________ Veritas-bu maillist - [email protected] http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu
