As far as I am aware, you cannot restore NDMP backups to non-NDMP devices and writing NDMP backups to different NDMP devices is hit or miss. I've run NDMP backups on several different NAS devices, NetApps (various versions on ONTAP), Sun Unified Storage Platform, StorageTek, OpenFiler and the best I have been able to do is to restore an NDMP backup to the same manufacturer of NAS device with a different model / software / firmware release.
