Not sure if you are using vxdiskadm or pure command line.  I've
had some of the same errors and have specified with both vxdisksetup and
vxdg that it is sliced and cds=off, so

 /etc/vx/bin/vxdisksetup -i -f diskdevice format=sliced

and


vxdg init dgname diskname=diskdevice cds=off

I've also been specific the other direction (format=cdsdisk and cds=on).  I also
create a linux partition on it before I get vxvm involved with the disk.  Both 
have
worked and both have failed.  I'd be very interested in what support tells you.
