The answer is "It depends".
 
If you the disk was mirrored (or RAID-5) using Volume Manager, then you
should just follow the procedures for replacing a failed disk (which is
covered in the Volume Manager Administrator's Guide ).  The easiest way
is to run vxdiskadm, and then select option "5" to replace a failed
disk.  Note that this will initialize the disk and then repopulate the
data from the mirror (or RAID-5 group); this may destroy any existing
data on the disk.
 
However, if the disk was NOT mirrored (or RAID-5) using Volume Manager,
then you should run "vxreattach" (which is covered in the Volume Manager
Troubleshooting Guide; this will only work if no volumes that use the
disk have been started (otherwise the volume will be marked as stale).
You can use "vxreattach -c EMC_CLARiiON0_6" to check if vxreattach is
possible.  You should run "/usr/sbin/vxdctl enable" to have volume
manager scan the disks again before running vxreattach.
 
You can also call VERITAS Support if you have a valid support contract,
and they will walk you through the procedure; if there is critical data
on that disk, and no recent backups, I highly recommend calling VERITAS
Support before doing anything, and having them help you.  In my
experience, this is probably something they have done many times, and
they should be able to help you competently and quickly.
