I have a few projects checked out from Google Code, etc. where I am
not a contributor, but simply like being able to update the code
easily. It's great to have those in Versions, but it would be nice if
Versions knew that I will never commit anything to these repositories.

The thing is that when I compile the code, or when I just open the
Xcode project, there are supposed changes in the working copy. Even
adding those to svn:ignore makes Versions show the little badge with
the changes.

So what I want to suggest is to have the option of marking a
repository read-only, so it at least doesn't show the badge. Perhaps
this could even be the default when no username is given. It's a minor
thing perhaps, but would add to the overall polish.
