It's been a while since Versions was last updated (4 months), so I personally expect an update to come shortly. The fact that they integrate Subversion into Versions and don't support external svn installations does complicate matters. I, too, would like Versions to use my external installation (from MacPorts). It's able to recognize that a compatible version is installed, so it should give me the option to use it.
