Found a solution. There is probably a better solution but this one
worked for me.

First, Versions DOES appear to be looking specifically for a private
key to be named "id_dsa".

Secondly, my permissions were insecure. Using terminal I changed the
file's permissions to 600 by typing the following:
chmod 600 file_name

After that I was able to add the key to SSHKeychain and then Versions
was able to find it.

It is possible the SSHKeychain is NOT required for this to work, but
as I had it running at the time Versions's requests for the SSH-agent
would have been going through SSHKeychain instead of the Mac's built
in ssh-agent. ...or so I have come to believe after 7+ hours of
research, trial and error.

Hopefully this will help someone else.
