I think it would be nice to have expressions in dataset choosers. I've just worried about error bars in the past for this. I'll think how best to implement it... Using the dataset plugin to do the filtering doesn't replicate the data in the document, fortunately. It is saved as an expression in the document. The output will also automatically update if the input data changes too.
