My first fly was a bream popper. For my 12th birthday I got a Herter's
Fly Tying Kit with all the tools, plus a bunch of feathers and an
assortment of hooks. But . . . . there weren't any corks, which I needed
for my bream popper. Mom had an old bottle of Castor Oil, which had a
small cork in it. There was only a teaspoon left, so she poured it out
and gave me the cork. ( Yes, I know, cork stoppers in medicine bottles
are way before most of your times.) :-P Anyway, I tied up a neat
little bream fly, painted it yellow, with black doll's eyes glued on.
Caught a lot of bream ( shellcrackers, bluegills, etc.)

Have a Goodun!
