for the list
Hi Don, well, i'll have to wait to get some styrofoam i guess........to tell
you the truth........i HATE the stuff.........it's horrible for the
enviornment, AND it makes a frickin' mess everywhere it goes............so, i
do my BEST to NEVER have any around. i ALWAYS try and leave it at the post
office whenever possible, when packages come with it as well. Just hate the
stuff.
Thankx for the info/advise.....will give it a shot asap.......maybe sometime in
May or June, or......lmao.............we're gonna be on the road as of this
Sun., and i don't plan on takin' the fly with me.......lol. But........"all
good things................................wait."
And no, i don't think the hook i used is one that you sent...........unless the
ones you sent are gold and extremely long........like 15/20X Long.
Because, (or at least partcially as a result of, i guess.....) i give away so
many hooks every year..........i also "get" hooks sent to me all the
time.....little this, little that.....here, there, and everywhere..........lol.
So it's impossible to keep track of who sends what..........and i don't even
bother. Not a week goes by without "somethin'" commin' in the mail from
"somebody." Got some great hooks from Jimbo (Phillips), just the other
day..........beautiful little Partridge wet fly hooks in a couple sizes.
i was talkin' to a friend this morning, (Bud Frasca, president of the FFF
Western Rocky Mountain Council), who has just had a surgery and therefor also
missed the show in Idaho Falls........sorry you hadda miss it. He's hoping to
make the show in Washington. We had plans to float the Yakima in his boat after
the show............but i dunno now........he may not be up to rowin'.
IF, (also usually a pain in the butt), i can "unsubscribe" for the
duration.........i think i will............so if you don't see me
here.............you'll know why. Have a GREAT spring and
summer...........gotta get to an NAFF meeting.........T.L. from Wapsi is
tyin'..........hehehehehe. Stay in touch if you wanna stay with us durin'
Sowbug or FFF Southern Council Conclave next. Later. mark.....

Mark,
Glue a piece of strong styrofoam to the bottom (say 1" x 1" by 3"), located
where it needs to be to accept the hook where the fly would be best situated
(diagonal sometimes works). Poke the hook into the styrofoam and use a stout
rubberband to tie the bend of the hook to the opposite end of the styrofoam
block. If you have room, use a longer block of styrofoam and go from the hook
eye to around the front of the styrofoam. All you are trying to do is
stabilize the hook in mid-air, and then keep it from backing out in transit. I
use Elmer's white glue but you can use whatever works to glue the styro down.
If your streamer is being crushed on the bottom front end (the cheek feathers),
just cut the styrofoam so that there is a rise in front of the fly, then go
around that, which will suspend the front of the fly higher.
When I did a lot of shows with the giant flies, this is how I did it, using a
strip of styrofoam and making like a sort of giant flybox, with each fly held
in place by the rubberbad placed over a double-grove cut in front of each fly.
I could put all the mounts in one box, and all the wet-style flies in another.
Mounting the giant dry flies was a challenge, though, and I supported the eyes
from the sidewalls of the box and reinforced it with a strip of wood, and then
used cup-hooks screwed in.
Are you using those x-long giant streamer hooks I sent, and those x-large/long
black Aberdeen wire-hooks?
