I could add: The one time you forget to pinch the barb down on your hook is the time that when extracting the fly from the mouth of the trout he returns the favor imbedding it deeply in your hand leaving you with a decision - do I rip it out or push it through and then pinch down the barb before extracting. Any decision hurts.
