Reels when still in the box will be marked for line weight on the box. Maybe some of the high end reels might have it marked on the reel. Don't know that, I don't have any high end reels. The size of the reel is usually matched to the line weight of the rod. Putting a reel for an 8 wt line on a 4 wt rod will be unbalanced and look that way too. But then to each his own, I have seen it done. I am sure you will get better replies than this one. Tony
