I agree. Once I was fishing a local river with some frriends from my club.
It was early November and we were after Coho (Silvers) that were conspicuous
by their absence. A thunderstorm crashed and rumbled in the distance with
the usual flashes of lightning.  I thought it was unusual to have a
thunderstorm in November. I was holding my rod horizontal behind my back for
some unexplained reason when I suddenly got a jolt from it like static
electricity.  It seems that the ground where I was standing was charged with
positive ions. Gave me quite a scare.

So there I was, inspired by Tony’s wonderful tale, getting ready to load up
the Jeep (or rather getting ready to unload the back so I could load my rod
& pack) when it started raining.  Rain doesn’t usually bother me, so I went
back in to get rain gear when It started pouring. That didn’t bother me as
much, so I went back to change my footwear, but there’s something about
waving 8 ½ feet of carbon around when there’s lightning that gave me pause…
