My old man was a mechanical engineer & a lot of the company's clients then were steel mills in & near Chicago. His company car was always the cheapest station wagon they could find. I was just starting to drive when Ford came out w/ a tailgate that opened like a door as well as opening down. The family was out for a drive somewhere & my little brother kept whining that he wanted to sit by the tailgate w/ his arm on it like I did, so the old man made me let him sit there. He got bored & started playing w/ the handle in spite of my admonitions not to. Dad pulled away from a stoplight in his usual manner & the dumbass had his hand on the handle. Took about a half block of dragging him down the street before he let go & I could stop laughing long enough to tell my dad to stop.

I remember my dads car as a 32 Ford. Of course he got it in black. It had a rood made of canvas that was also black. I remember being in it while it was raining and we got wet. Next day he treated it with some kind of goop to stop it from leaking. That is the first car I can remember. Then came a '38 Buick with two running boards and spare tires in each, then a '41 Chevy,a '50 Ford, a '54 Ford wagon with the wood on the side. my the memories of falling out the front door of the '50 Ford, going around a corner and holding on with one foot in the car and my arm on the door.........
