Depends on what species you are after. There is just about everything nearby. Salt water stripers on the Chesapeake Bay, Shad and smallmouth in the Potomac, for trout the Gunpowder is about 45 minutes north or for Brook trout, the Shenandoah National Park is about 45 minutes west of DC. Lots of good stuff to cover just about anybody's taste.
