Hi Mike,

Ralph Cutter is a favorite writer here also. I was reading the Fish Food
book this morning. Ralph writes a column for each issue of the California
Fly Fisher magazine. The Fish Food book is a collection of past articles.

Many of Cutter's observations about aquatic insects and fish feeding
behavior are based upon many hours underwater using scuba gear and snorkel
equipment. Direct observation makes his opinions particularly interesting.

For example, one of his favorite techniques is to rub powdered fly dryer
(like Shimazaki Dry Shake) into natural fibers in flies like the Bird's
Nest. That creates a bubble sheath around the fly that matches naturals
very well.

You can see more of Ralph and Lisa Cutter's works here.
