Yeah, daddy would buy those packs of about 10 snelled hooks to the pack. Problem is, he always used size 2. I told him way back then that I thought those were too big for a crappie. I still think one of a lot of fishermen's problems is using hooks that are too big,. When I started buying my own hooks, I'd buy those snelled EC hooks in a size 6, take a live minnow and run it though his tail then out the other side where he could still swim, but was crippled, which the crappie loved, and they'd tear those things up and I didn't lose near as many fish as I did with those size 2's, But, Daddy caught as many crappie as any man I have ever met, so I guess he had his own ideas for a reason too.
