Jimmy: You gotta still be careful.. I had a HUGE "patch", which was nearly a foot square.. And it was fine for a few years (now, this is a hiatial hernia in my belly, but the same principle applies). I got dose of Bronchitis and coughed real hard, and the patch "popped" out right along the edge, right at my navel. So, they went in and put a DOUBLE patch in, which were about 4" by 4" square. They put one on the inside of the muscle, and one on the outside. They say that the fascia grows into the patch , like a grapevine grows into a trellis, and so far, so good since about 1999.
