Ashley,
Glad you liked them- the swappers all did great. Glad it wasn't a contest.
After this weekend, we'll need to see if anyone has not gotten their package
yet.

Crazy Charlie bodies can be made with D-Rib (cross section = D), or Jelly
Rope, with a round cross section- O. Don't know which one you are using.

Both come in transparent colors, so undercolors can reflect through. Who
remembers Larva Lace in the tube type that tiers used to fill with veg. oil to
get a highly segmented sheen?

With today's synthetics there is a lot more variation that can be accomplished
while still keeping the translucent qualities of the clear wraps.

That would be a good idea for a swap. Tie whatever- nymph, crazy charlie,
caddis, scud, shrimp with D-Rib, Jelly Rope, hollow Larva Lace (they make a
midge lace too) or rope-dubbed synthetic covered with Loons UV Goop. The key
would be to use a transparent material with a reflective base, or a very shiny
synthetic roped tightly, covered with UV cured goop.

Those of you rope-dubbers that have awesome hair from Byard, try roping it very
tight and clean and then cover it with UV goop (the wader repair stuff works
fine). Not real thick, just a good covering. You'll love the look. Then apply
it to your productive patterns.

Ropers, also try your favorite dubbings for scud patterns. Then make the shell
casing out of the UV goop and cure. It will give you all kinds of ideas for
fly designs. It really brings out the segments and doesn't penetrate the
dubbing like the vinyl does. It is harder than the vinyl when cured, so it's
not for flies I want to keep soft.

Subject: [VFB] rope dubbed swap arrives in UK

  Hi,
I've not long got home from a week working away and spied a package with the
DonO return address, so I threw the other junk to one side and opened that.

Thats to DonO for hosting and all those who took part.

I notice that more people seem to be putting the dressing on the toe tag,
which I think is a good idea.

I have no favorite, all as good as the others and hopefully Keith has his or
he won't be happy!

I'm convinced looking at the extra nymph fro DonO, that the back material is
the same stuff that I've been using on crazy charlie bodies.
