Bruce,
We missed you at the Sowbug and the Conclave. Good to see you are still here.

Tony,
Keep it on the list - I for one find it
interesting.  I am glad you are back active on the list, hope that means
you are feeling a lot better.
Bruce

If there is no interest in this, I can take it off
        list.
The rods most of us now make are all hand crafted and not
machine made like most of the older bamboo rods. We also heat treat to
what we think is the best to temper the bamboo, this makes the bamboo
stronger and more lively. To get the rod to bend where you want it to
bend, the taper is adjusted for that. If you want a rod with a faster
tip, the tip section is thinned down. If you want it to be a medium
action, then the mid section is adjusted, If parabolic then the butt
section is thinned down. There are a lot of proven tapers that are
available. I use mostly use tapers by Paul Young and  Garrison the
tapers that have been modified. The Sir D, 7' 4wt and the Anderson 7/9
7'9" 5 wt are my favorite tapers. Long story on the Sir D will tell you
about that when I see you in March. Will let you cast mine and my
        7/9..
>From what I read, we now make some of the best casting bamboo
rods made. That does not mean that some of the old rods don't cast
good.
Some are exceptional some are dogs. Computers are used to work out
tapers and improve the old tapers. Working by hand has more control in
planing the strips. It takes me approx 60 hours to make a two tip 7'
        rod.
