When I was in Alaska last year I got one of the Simms ones that have a hood and
drawstrings all over the place.

It hept me warm because it keeps the wind out and it is waterproof so it keeps
you dry.

Hard to put a price on expensive if you can continue fishing comfortably even
in bad weather.

Thank you,

Hi Mike, thanks for the reply. Hodgman has a really good price, and a good
quality. At least from my experience. !0 years ago (oh.. 11) I bought some
wader (hip wader) from them, not breathable, but easy to carry, and easy on
travel. Use them often, and have no failure so far.
I like simms too, but their Wading Jackets are faar to expensive for my
budget.
I'm thinking now to buy some Jack Wolfskin stuff, my kids have some of them
and are very satisfied, no ff jacquets, just plain vanilla hard shells.

    Rene,

I really like Simms stuff but it is pricey. I bought a Hodgman wading
jacket at Sportsmans Warehouse a few years back and I love it. It has big
pockets so I can put in a few fly boxes. It is short so it stays out of the
water. And I think it is good looking so I wear it a lot around town (when I
am in Utah. Don't need one here in Hawaii). It was very reasonably priced and
it has worn very well. I did recoat it with a water repellant last year after
about 5 years. I would recommend at least a look. (I looked and they are
about $80 US now which is about what the sticker was then but I got it on sale
for about $50 if I remember right)

      Hi Gang,

I'm in the market to buy an additional jacket for winter fishing. I have
already a Wading Jacket from Orvis which I like most, now I'm looking
for something which keeps me dry and warm even in Winter, and not only
      for fishing.

When I browse through the shops, I see that outdoor jackets like from
Jacke Wolfskin or Patagonia go with 150 to 250 EUR, even ones which look
'top end'. (Lined, flexible, etc.), When I look for jackets which are
marked as fly fishing jackets, they go from 300 to 500 EUR. That;s valid
also for companies which sell 'regular' and 'ff-jackets'.My question is
now: Why are these ff jackets so much expensive? Is it possible to cast
a line while wearing a 'regular' shell? Any experience and thoughts?
