I've personally seen Lefty Kreh cast  a fly line with just the tip of a fly rod
and just his hands.  The first time I saw him cast with just his hands was in a
classroom with an 8ft ceiling.  He cast about 30ft of line with a tight closed
loop about 6 inches below the ceiling and placed his fly into a trashcan 30ft
away.

Living in Maryland, just about any flyfishing show in this area has Lefty
attending so I'm kinda spoiled in I get to watch him do his thing frequently.
I never tire of seeing him demonstrate his casting abilities.

When I grow up and become a true "flycaster" I don't ever envision having that
ability.

I watched Dave Engerbretson cast an entire fly line without a rod at NOARK
clave one year.

He did "cheat", however - he taped a lollipop stick with a single guide to his
index finger.
