The rains have started, but it is as usual dead flat calm, the perfect casting day/evening. but we should have Irene about 30 miles west of us by early morning, I think the actual hurricane came apart over VA, but it could regather the ball or circle pattern before hitting NYC.

Most folks who have never lived through a hurricane don't realize that are several parts, the first wind and rain, dead calm when the eye passes over, and more wind and rain.

As a child I lived on Nantucket Island, my Dad was a fisherman there and other coastal locations. But the 1954 hurricane came ashore and the ocean water was as warm as bath water in the street in front of the house. We got in a little trouble for playing in it, then the second half of the storm came about and put a boat in the street!

Hi All;
The major force of Irene is suposed to hit my area at 4pm today thru
tommorrow am. So far a lot of rain and a little breezier than normal but
not so bad. The rain started much earlier than I expectecd, about 8am
this morning. It made it a little more difficult to get ready, a little
more challenging cleaning and inspecting rain gutters, and moving
everything outside that could blow around into storage. My main genrator
is down for now, the carburator was full of gunk and clogged, weird
since I used fuel preservative but I guess the new gas formulas don't
take to presefvatives as well as they did in the past. Now I'm just
waiting on instant gasket to set on carb bowl, the o-ring sealing it
dissolved in all the gunk. At least I have a smaller generator that's up
and running if needed.
Hopefully the power will stay on and internet service will stay up.
Check with you all later;
