Tying in the mid point and folding back is how Dave Skok's Mushmouth is
tied as well.

I tried the hot water yesterday on some already tied bait fish and it
does help shape the fibers, I know by experience you can't micro wave
synthetics, they become rather solid.

     Puglisi fiber style fly, you could tie with awesome hair the same
