About a year or more ago, I purchased some fly hooks from an online company http://www.allenflyfishing.com/ that were listed at the time with the same hook designation as Tiemco. I was disappointed with the hooks for although the style was similar to Tiemco, the hook gape (or gap if you prefer) was considerably less. So much so that I don't like them and should probably re-sell them.
When I was fishing for steel head in Sep 2011, I needed some smaller hooks for my tube flies and ended up purchasing Mustad short shank straight eye hooks made in China as the only option available. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality which appeared to be as good as the Japanese equivalent.
