Nev, I am with you on this. Tony ________________________________ From: Neville Gosling <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Thursday, July 5, 2012 4:58 PM Subject: Re: [VFB] fly rod kits Jerry:
Usually, the cane blank is unfinished. Flex coat will work, but I would not use it for a bamboo rod because once applied is is usually there for good and hard to remove if a guide needs replacement. In addition, the cane itself needs to be protected and this is normally done with several coats of spar varnish. Only impregnated cane does not require protection with varnish. I would use spar varnish for both the thread wraps and the cane itself. I use a product called Helmsman by Minwax but there is a brand with a name like "Man of War" varnish. Tony Spezio may have some suggestions. Neville (Nev) Gosling Greater Vancouver BC, Canada On 2012-07-05, at 2:43 PM, J Mck wrote: Has anyone ever bought a bamboo fly rod kit?
