The best day at the lake so far. A day that showed my little girls that
(quote Teresa) "This is why pappa think fishing is so fun."

After taking me to the lake Teresa and the girls followed me down to the
water to look for a while. I was preparing the rod when a fish showed itself
just outside were we stood, maybe 5 feet out in the water. I rushed to tie a
fly on and carefully went down to the water line. 3-4 short (6 feet +
leader) casts later I stood there with a jumping fish in the other end of
the line. GRRREAT!!! They had seen the two last steps - into the freezer...
and onto the table. Finally I got the chance to show them the first steps
too... 'Look at the fish out there!'... 'It took!'... 'Oh MAN is he a
fighter!!!'... and a few jumps later it was gone. Oh well, at least I could
show them that nasty "side step" too... that it's not caught until it's in
the net.
After about 10 minutes of "casting in the dark" another fish broke the
surface withing casting range. "Look now... I'm going to try to catch that
one." Two casts later and SPLASH... missed. But next cast it took it for
real and now I got to show them a more "normal" one (i.e. not having it in
netting range right after the take). But after getting it in almost all the
way also that one disappeared back into the deep.

Super day. The girls got to see fish in their right element, taking,
jumping, fighting back... and that it's a fight that you don't always win.
However, they didn't stay for very long so I failed to show them fights I
actually won. But those first two were very determined to stay in the lake
and showed them some really nice jumping and splashing. The girls'
excitement during the fights were unmistakable. They're already looking
forward to next weekend, when they will stay all day. I'll show them the
winning step then...

Bonus: Those two lost fights also showed Teresa that the answer "No, but I
lost three" might not be a lie... every time. LOL
