I typically lip bass; it's quicker to get the fly out & the fish back in the water & you don't touch the protective layer on the skin of the fish. When I'm using a net, as w/ trout, I rarely need to touch the fish @ all.

We are taught to hold fish supporting their bellies etc but a lot of Bass get swung on to decks and held up by their mouths. I am not critising and dont want to start any arguments, just curious if it does harm the fish or not.
